The study of the labial impressions occurs through the analysis of the lines, fissures, wrinkles and striae present in the lip.
Its application is advantageous and quite useful when confronting lip impressions left on objects or belongings, such as cups, bowls, cigarette butts, paper napkins or even on cushions or similar used in cases of suffocation. When a lip mark is related to a victim or suspect at a crime scene, it then becomes evidence and has to be analyzed as such. The technique of identification by means of queiloscopy has the necessary criteria to be considered a method of identification, are unique to each individual uniqueness , do not change throughout life immutable , there are classification tables of types of labial drawings classification , is an easy-to-use method practicability , and after death, as well as the digital pulps, it remains for some time, yet it can be used perennial.
Due to these characteristics, lip printing is a valid medium to be used, especially in criminal investigation. The descriptors used were: lips, forensic dentistry, forensic medicine, human identification, cheiloscopy.
The lips are two mobile, highly sensitive mucocutaneous folds composed of skin, muscles, sebaceous glands and mucous membranes, forming the anterior border of the oral cavity6. Anatomically, the labial structure is formed by the upper lip and the lower lip, joined by the labial commissaries. In the lower lip, the midline of the mentolabial sulcus, limited between the cutaneous lip and the mentum, is found.
In the place of union of both, there is a wavy and whitish line, called the lip margin, especially visible in individuals with black skin. Martin Santos suggested the first classification of lip impressions in the year The first is determined only by one form and the second, when they are formed by two or more distinct forms.
Table 1 Adaptation of the classification of martin santos 6 , 10 , Suzuki and Tsuchihashi developed a new classification in the year , 1 , 6 , 18 , 19 based on the shape and the path of the labial impression grooves using two axes, one vertical and one horizontal Table 2. Each quadrant is divided into four sections, which allows a better reading and observation of the labial impression Figure 1. Through a study it was verified that the gender of the individual was determined according to the Suzuki and Tsuchihashi classification Table 3.
Table 2 Adaptation of Suzuki and tsuchiha classification 6 , 10 , Table 3 Results obtained in the study regarding the determination of gender 1 , 5 , 14 , Considered as the most complete classification, 6 , 17 it consists of dividing the upper and lower lip into the right and left sides and into four quadrants. The upper right lip is designated by the letter "D", the upper left lip by the letter "d".
The lower right lip by the letter "E" and the lower left lip by the letter "e" Figure 2. Figure 2 Division of the upper and lower lip according to the renaud classification. Table 4 Renaud classification 6 , Figure 3 Renaud classification scheme.
Divergent to the classification of Suzuki and Tsuchihashi, this classification was suggested in the year , and maintains all types of patterns, except those of type II. The bifurcations that are produced up to the upper lip and below the lower lip are called as type II, and as type II 'the lines that in the same lip are bifurcated above and below. Dating back to , the classification of Afchar-bayat is based on the classification of Suzuki and Tsuchihashi, however it describes the lines and grooves present in the lips in a different way6 and is described in Table 5.
Oviedo and Meira suggested in the year a classification that is also based on the classification of Suzuki and Tsuchihashi. However, it emphasizes the depth of the grooves, dividing them into superficial and deep Table 6. Table 6 Classification of Oviedo and meira Adapted from Pereira Evidence of nutrition transition in Southern Africa. Nutrition transition is characterised by shift to highly refined diets high in fat, salt and caloric sweeteners and low in fibre in rapidly growing economies. Dietary shifts occur almost concurrently with demographic and epidemiologic shifts, urbanisation and industrialisation and together contribute to increased prevalence of nutrition related NR -non-communicable disease NCR.
SAC are at various levels in interventions for moving their populations to stage 5, but there is room for much improvement. The Southern Divide: Testing morphological differences among bifacial points from southern and southeastern Brazil using geometric morphometrics. This archaeological tradition has been related to sites dated from the late Pleistocene-early Holocene boundary to near historical times. Such a huge temporal range and vast territory have suggested the existence of greater diversity within this tradition that has been ignored thus far due to the lack of systematic regional studies of such points.
Through geometric morphometric analysis, this article aims to test the hypothesis that there are substantial differences in the Holocene bifacial points associated with the Umbu tradition in southeastern Brazil.
It is possible that Umbu tradition presents a more restricted range, both in chronological and spatial terms, than the one proposed so far. Organic matter in constructed soils from a coal mining area in southern Brazil. Dick, Deborah P. In southern Brazil , the landscape restoration after the exhaustion of open cast coal mines involves the filling of mine cavities with both pedogenic and geological material.
The objective of this work was to determine the content and chemical composition of the organic matter of two constructed soils 24 years and 2 years in a coal mining area in southern Brazil. An undisturbed Acrisol and geological material from three sites were also sampled. Our results show that, during the 24 years after site reconstruction, the input of vegetation residues diluted the proportion of recalcitrant organic matter. Ontogenetic variations and feeding habits of a Neotropical annual fish from southern Brazil.
Full Text Available ABSTRACT Knowing the feeding biology of a population and its ontogenetic aspects can help in understanding the functioning of fish assemblages, essential to the conservation of the habitat biodiversity in which these species are found. Annual fishes complete their life cycle in temporary aquatic environments, existing in adult stage only for brief annual periods. Changes in the feeding habits between different size classes could indicate that a species belongs to different feeding groups in different growth phases.
The aim of this work was to characterize the diet of Cynopoecilus fulgens Costa, in a temporary flooded area in the coastal plain of southern Brazil , taking into consideration possible alterations in feeding habits in different body size classes caused by ontogenetic changes, to explain the coexistence of these individuals in a short space of time.
The diet analysis indicated that C. Intraspecific differences in diet were determined when compared between nine classes of standard length. Adults fed mainly on autochthonous insects, and juveniles ingested mostly crustaceans, with the population being separated into two trophic groups: invertivores and invertivores with a tendency towards zooplanktivory.
It is possible to conclude that the ontogenetic changes in the diet of C. Induced abortion is the main cause of maternal death in Brazil. Question of its legalization has been the subject of frequent discussion. In order to assess the influence of the variables affecting the opinion of women of reproductive age, a population-based systematic sample in the county of Rio Grande Southern Brazil was examined. Schooling and previous induced abortion were the main determinants of women's favorable opinions regarding abortion legalization.

The Guarani Indians in South Brazil have a sophisticated system of thought about the cosmos. Presented here are some elements of their cosmology and cosmogony and the influences of the heavenly bodies in this people's everyday life, which have been collected in ethnographic research in the first decade of the 21st century. The main themes of cosmology and the origin of the Sun, Moon, and Earth are described, approximating this anthropological research to ethnoastronomy and cultural anthropology discussions.
This research seeks to analyze comparatively this cosmological concept with other indigenous cosmological systems and to compare them with the Western cosmological system, thus including it in studies of cultural astronomy. Cultivation of native seaweed Gracilaria domingensis Rhodophyta in Southern Brazil.
Full Text Available The aim of this work was to study the cultivation of Gracilaria domingensis in a mussel farming urbanized area in Santa Catarina, Brazil. Relative growth rate was the parameter used to evaluate the cuttings attachment methods on the cultivation rope, cuttings density, cultivation period and cystocarpic versus unfertile thalli performance.
The cultivation was feasible only when protected by net cages due to herbivory. The tie-tie attachment method presented the best results. No differences were observed when comparing the cuttings densities and reproductive phase. Future studies should evaluate the cost-effectiveness of producing the species in net cages and its potential as biofilter. Habits and customs of crab catchers in southern Bahia, Brazil. Brazilian mangrove forests are widely distributed along the coast and exploited by groups of people with customs and habits as diverse as the biology of the mangrove ecosystems.
In the studied community, illegal hunting activities that violate Brazilian legislation limiting the use of tangle-netting in mangrove ecosystem were observed. This analysis leads us to conclude that catchers from economically marginalised social groups enter mangroves for purposes of survival rather than for purposes of subsistence, because the catching by tangle-netting is a predatory technique.
We emphasise that traditional catching methods are unique to Brazil and that manual capturing of crab should be preserved through public policies aimed at maintaining the crab population.
