You will find that there are people out in the streets until very, very late at night so if you go home by midnight you won't feel threatened provided you remain aware of your surroundings. Don't worry! I ended up alone in Seville last July for three days and had an absolutely fantastic time! At nineteen, I was a hemisphere away from home and only spoke the most basic basic basic spanish, but still managed to find my way about with no hassle - in any way shape or form.
I found Spaniards to be very late-going people, so no need to worry about being on a deserted street at night, and by July the daylight hours are so long that there's no need to worry about the dark corners of Santa Cruz I stayed in a hostel - the Oasis - which accomodated all sorts, and organised free tapas tours, flamenco nights etc, and was a great way to meet people from all walks of life. The hostel was really well kitted out - you'd be hard pressed to beat it, but there are lots of nice traditional Andalusian-style hostals and pensions in Seville that hold just as much charm as the city itself.
Make sure you get to the Flamenco Museum fantastic, and also a reprieve from the heat - being an aussie I was quite accustomed to the temperature, but it was veeery warm , a flamenco show try Casa Carmen - a virtuoso! Best of luck for the trip, hope this helped - let me know if there's anything else you wanted to know.
I agree you need not worry about safety in Seville or the Santa Cruz area just be aware of your surroundings, as you would in any city.
Some of the smaller street in the Santa Cruz area I would avoid walking alone very late at night. I stayed at the Amadeus , alone in a single room which was just fine but this was in the winter not the heat of the summer, and believe me it's real hot. If you could stay at a place with a pool you might be more comfortable. I went to the bull ring also and took the tour in English it was very insteresting.
There are many shops along Calle Sierpes so don't miss them. I have traveled alond many times to Spain and Seville was the place I felt most comfortable. You might even want to investigate a day trip to the beach. Don't want to say anything negative at all about the Oasis Hostel, but they run a few in other cities in Andalusia, and they definitely cater to the younger, student type traveler.
Not that they wouldn't welcome anyone, but some accommodations are bunk style and if you look at the web site you'll quickly see. There are plenty of other alternatives in Santa Cruz which regularly welcome travelers of all ages.
Thanks so much for the information. I'm not worried to much about the heat but do want to stay in a place with airconditioning. Any suggestion on places the locals hang out and eat? About some nice places to eat, if you're going to stay by the Santa Cruz area, there are plenty of nice bars and restaurants. Right now I remember one called " Las Columnas " in the Mateos Gago street, just in front of the Giralda, with a very long tradition and really cheap and tasteful tapas.
There is a lot of people, of course! Hostals are just a more basic kind of Hotels, some of them very nice and very good value for money.
There is so much nightlife and people really do love to party here, just like in Buenos Aires. There are several gravel areas on the beach side of the promenade where it is possible to camp. Log out Edit. Colmar, France. Table of Contents.
Yes, this is confusing for a lot of people. I would say though that "Hostal" translates to "Hostel", and "Albergue" translates to "Youth Hostel". I think many see the word hostel and immediately think youth hostel This topic has been closed to new posts due to inactivity.
