I think acapulco gets a bad rap. I've been coming here for years it is a very safe City there is security everywhere you could walk around or take a city bus cheap anywhere. You could go to Acapulco for a month for the price you pay for a week or less to go somewhere else that wouldn't be as nice. Not to mention the food it's all fresh fruits vegetable and fish. I travel a lot but return to Acapulco every year.
Nowhere has matched up. That is not to say the place is not clean. Food was excellent, people very friendly. As in all resorts people did try and sell you goods or services, but when you said no, they left you alone.

There was a small restaurants just across the road from the hotel Costa Azul entrance and up just slightly, the food was to be fair delicious. Cliff diving was amazing was talking to a old Mexican guy call Pancho selling hats, at the entrance, what a polite interesting man. I came to watch a tennis tournament and didn't really see too much or do too much other than than. I really should not get a vote. Which is why the tournament didn't start til 4. But that's the weather. Each to his or her own. Acapulco is not as violent as advertised.
The government of Mexico has done a great job patrolling the streets with armored cars and Mexican Marines. I had a great time and went to all parts of Acapulco without problem. Loved the crazy bus rides, the vast selection of international food choices sushi, Chinese, American fast food, and great local joints. Acapulco is a bustling place. Really loved spending time at Playa Caletilla and Parque Papagayo for the kids.
Acapulco has the perfect weather and a lot of things to see and enjoy. The City Tour was worth it.
